Cucumber

Cucumber is a widely cultivated plant and belongs to the gourd family. It has creeping vines which bears cylindrical fruits, used as culinary vegetables. There are three types of cucumber. These are slicing, pickling and burpless. Different cultivars have emerged within these varieties. The scientific name is Cucumis sativus. It serves the purpose of beating the scorching summer heats and contains nutrients, other than water and electrolytes. It is one of the oldest cultivated plants. It is a vine like creeper like the other members of the Cucurbita family, for example, gourds, melons, squashes and zucchini etc. They are easily grown.
